GALESBURG, Ill.-- Carl Sandburg college is back in session and just a few days after floodwaters rushed through the campus.

Last week heavy rain brought unexpected floodwaters through the main building at Carl Sandburg College.

And just days later, the school is open and functioning.

College president Lori Sundberg says the faculty really came together to make it happen. "We spent Thursday and Friday getting everyone packed up, getting organized and figuring out where we want to be because we wanted to be ready this morning."

The water rose 3 feet before crashing in through the doors of the building.

Sundberg is estimating nearly $500,000 in damages."So what happened is it rushed through that front door and then it went down the corridors. It damaged a lot of computers because a lot of people had towers on the floor."

The building offices have been relocated while crews work to clean up the destruction.

Sundberg says if something like this had to happen this was actually the best time. "We're in pre-summer and pre-summer has just a few classes. Some clinical[s] but they're off-site... a New York trip but again it's off-site. So in terms of timing it couldn't have been a better time for something like this to happen."

The school does not have flood insurance and they are looking for monetary donations to help with some of the damages.
