DECATUR, Ill. -- Caterpillar executed the first round of massive layoffs at its Decatur plant on Wednesday.

The 460 layoffs were announced in April.  Wednesday morning those employees were escorted from the building.
An additional 300 layoffs are scheduled to take effect next month.
Caterpillar officials say employees included in the layoffs are predominantly in production but do include some support management positions.
