October 30, 2013 Updated Oct 30, 2013 at 11:06 AM CDT

KILGORE, Texas – Caterpillar announced Tuesday that it is closing its facility in Kilgore, Texas.

The closing comes just days after Caterpillar released its 3rd quarter numbers which showed an $11 billion decrease in sales and revenue compared to last year.

At that time, Caterpillar spokesperson Jim Dugan said the demand for mining was down and that as a result, there could be more layoffs on the horizon.

The closure will affect approximately 100 employees. Caterpillar said it will offer full-time employees a severance package and transitional support.

Production of items at the Kilgore plant will be moved to plants in Wamego, Kansas and South Milwaukee, Wisconsin by the end of the year.
