EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- Caterpillar announced Friday that they will be shutting down their East Peoria Campus on Sunday.

Cat officials say that the closure is to ensure employee safety and asset preservation during any potential flooding of the Illinois River.  The decision impacts 6,800 employees

The company says they are making plans for support and management employees based in East Peoria to work from other locations other than their traditional workplace.

Caterpillar says they will stay in contact with local authorities and will communicate to employees and other stakeholders about when the campus will reopen.
