AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- Smokers trying to kick the habit may benefit from text or video messages sent to their cell phones.
A new study compared quit rates of smokers who were given online and phone call support to those who were sent daily motivational messages and advice through text messages.
After six months, the text group was twice as likely to be smoke-free.
Researchers point out non of these studies included smartphones, and say the potential of applications designed to help smokers quit is huge.
This study was led by researchers at University of Auckland and published in 'The Cochrane Library'.
