PEORIA, Ill -- Isaac is just a tropical storm right now, but the Red Cross isn't taking any chances, as is prepares for the worse.
That means calling on its volunteers, including two of those from right here in central Illinois.
Don Crouch and Diane Schwarzentraub left Friday morning from the Peoria International airport to join the growing Red Cross operation in Tampa, Florida.
The volunteers say their support goes beyond providing food and shelter.
"Someone to talk to about what happened. I mean you can't help them exactly always, but when your handing out food and that they tell you a lot about what happened to them. I think its sometimes just makes them feel better to talk," said Diane Schwarzentraub.
"I try to be optimistic. I try to tell then the whole country's watching them and rooting for them. Try to make things efficient as possible and comfortable as possible for them," said Don Crouch.
Three volunteers from the Bloomington-Normal area were also deployed to Tampa on Friday.
