CHILLICOTHE, Ill -- The Chillicothe City Council is showing its support for Rescue 33.
Peoria's AMT has taken over ambulance calls since Chillicothe's all-volunteer ambulance had its license revoked last August.
The Peoria Area EMS has asked Chillicothe which provider they would like going forward, if Rescue 33 can get its license re-instated.
Council members said they have received hundreds of calls and e-mails from citizens with an overwhelming majority supporting Rescue 33.
Therefore, Monday night, the council unanimously passed a motion asking the EMS board to finish the review process for reinstatement.
"They've been told what they need to correct and if they get those corrected and get their license back then it's a fair game for whatever their gonna do, or whatever we're gonna do," said Chillicothe Mayor Troy Childers.
Rescue 33 President, Ron Hedden said, "Hopefully this allows us to move forward with the EMS office and to start proving we can do what we say we can do."
Hedden adds they are working closely with the EMS board to correct the multiple problems that led to the license being revoked.
He said it could still take a couple months to get a final decision.
