PEORIA, IL. -- Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis says he'd like a decision on a water company buyout by the end of next month.

A group of local business people have been asked to join the "sustainability commission" to come up with a recommendation.

The chair of the group would be former Peoria councilman Bob Manning, who pushed for the city to buy the Water Company in 2008.

That idea was rejected by council members on a seven-four vote.

One of the issues involved in the cost of "due diligence" to investigate what a Water Company buyout would really cost...immediately and in the future.

That cost is estimated at two million dollars -- at a time the city is looking at cutting the city's budget.
