PEORIA, Ill. -- After thirty-two years as Peoria City Clerk, Mary L. Haynes has decided to retire.
City hall was standing room only Friday as many came to celebrate Haynes' time as city clerk.
She received gifts and proclamations from Congressman Aaron Schock, Mayor Jim Ardis, Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth, and many others.
"I have really felt the love in this room today and i am very, very grateful for it," said Mary Haynes. "I'm blown away, totally surprised, and don't quite feel that there should've been this much fuss."
The Peoria City Council will officially accept Haynes resignation Tuesday at a council meeting.
Deputy Clerk Beth Ball will then be voted in as her replacement.
