DELAVAN, Ill.-- Lake Park was transformed into a Civil War battlefield this weekend.

Civil War re-en-actors set up camp for live re-enactments and played the parts of historical characters.

Attendees heard stories from the Generals and learned what life was like for Americans during wartime.

Ulysses S. Grant re-en-actor, Larry Werline says these events help American students understand where they come from.

He said, “We feel if we can come in as character as first person we feel we can bring history alive to them and it's more than just reading about a battle and numbers and years in the book."

This is the second annual event.

Organizers say it will be held the first weekend in May for many years to come.
