PEORIA, Ill. -- The Heart of Illinois has been experiencing the powerful force of rain water.

But the rising river couldn't stop the Clean Water Celebration Sunday downtown.

The event celebrated all the uses of H2O.. as a precious source for business, recreation, and community services.

Sunday's kick off included a keynote dinner with speaker Stiv Wilson, who has sailed 25,000 thousand miles, documenting plastic pollution in our oceans.

Karen Cotton, the Spokesperson for Illinois American Water, says we all need to become more educated on water's power... And each of us *can do something to make a difference.

"We need to respect it and we need to protect it," said Cotton. "Around Earth Day it's a good reminder to look at this precious resource and do what we can to protect it."

The Clean Water Celebration continues tomorrow from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the Peoria Civic Center.
