PEORIA, Ill. -- A warning about your medications and cold temperatures.
Pharmacists say most medicine should be kept at room temperature.
While the extreme heat has more of an effect than the cold, medications that freeze can become ineffective, especially if they are liquid.
"The freezing and re-thawing, if things do that, that's more likely you might have a problem with the stability of the medication," said Pharmacist Bill Kalman.
There is no official data about medicine in cold temperatures, so it is unknown if all medicines are affected the same way.
Pharmacists say medicines most likely to become ineffective are hormone based, such as birth control and steroids.
