Colorado governor signs tough gun legislation

DENVER, Colo. -- Colorado governor John Hickenlooper has signed into law some of the toughest gun legislation in the country.

The new laws expand background checks to include purchases and transfers between private parties and online sales.

It also closes a loophole that had exempted sales from gun shows from background checks.

The legislation comes after the murder of Colorado's top corrections officer.

"Tom Clements dedicated his life to being a public servant. To making our state better, making the world a better place and he is going to be deeply deeply missed," Governor Hickenlooper said.
