PEKIN Ill -- Pekin Township held a free ham dinner this afternoon, inviting anyone who wanted some company for Easter.

Dozens of volunteers of all ages helped cook up the meals and serve those attending.

Thanks to generous donations throughout the year, the Township was able to make enough food to feed 400 people.

"If you are a widow or a widower and you are alone, rather than eat a holiday meal by yourself, you can come in here and share a meal with somebody else in the township," said Pekin Township Supervisor, Kevin Cone. "Everybody here is friendly and willing to help you out."

"This gives us a chance to sit and talk about what is important to us, and it gives us an opportunity to have a nutritious meal also, which a lot of these probably wouldn't have," said Pekin resident, Frank Coatney.

If you would like to make a donation to the Pekin Township community group, you can call the office at 346-3194.
