CANTON, Ill. -- Capital Resources Development Company’s proposal to mine north of Canton has been denied by Illinois Department of Natural Resources, according to a Friday release from the Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club.
The Sierra Club says that the 32 page final order was issued by Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Hearing Officer Jack L. Price.
The final order denied the IDNR's issuance of a permit for the North Canton Mine, and is the "Final Administrative Order for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources" for the North Canton Mine.
Some residents had been concerned about the mining ruining Canton Lake's water quality. The company looking to mine in Canton was hit with 600 permit violations by Illinois Pollution Control Board in November of 2012.
