PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria city officials, along with several other groups, hosted a construction job fair on Saturday.

Construction and trades groups set up shop inside Woodruff Career and Technical School to meet with job applicants.

One woman who completed a training program said it paid off.

"In the trades, I didn't even know before I got in how to get in or what to do,” said Bridget Booker. “So being that they're being informative, letting people know that they are here, they're wanting them and show some interest toward the community is very important."

Peoria city officials want to increase the number of minorities working in construction.
