PEORIA, Ill. -- The stereotype of the cop at the donut shop is holding true but this time it is for a cause.

Police officers from all over central Illinois are taking to the roof tops to help raise money for Special Olympics.

District 8 Trooper Dustin Pierce said it's rewarding to assist the participants.

"After their competitions they come in and they always bring their medals. It shows what all it teaches them," said Trooper Pierce. "It gives them not only physical skills but they also build a lot of self confidence through the activities they participate in."

During Friday's event officers raised a total of $4,339.
