EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The new Costco is finally open for business.

The doors officially opened at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning and there were plenty of people waiting to take advantage of grand opening specials.

Name brand merchandise is offered in a variety of sizes at discount prices.

A membership is required, but customers we talked with say the $55 membership is worth it.

"It's incredibility exciting," said Kathleen Brill Cullinan, VP of Real Estate. "It's years in the making, a true regional draw is that this will be the only Costco between Chicago and St. Louis and drawing from an equally wide radius and so we are thrilled to have it here today."

One customer drove all the way from Normal to shop at Costco.

"This is pretty exciting here, ya know, brand new place and everything to be downstate and have this quality of a store come in the community," said Marshall Eckhart.

The new Costco location features a variety of convenient specialty departments, including a gas station, Fresh Bakery, Optical Department, Tire Center, Hearing Aid Center, and Food Court.
