PEORIA, Ill -- The Peoria City council took a first step in a very long process that will look at redevelopment options for Taft Homes.
Tuesday night, the Council approved funding for a study that will look at what options the City and the Peoria Housing Authority for Taft Homes. Those options may include demolition, remediation, or relocation of the public housing.
In the past, the PHA studied on-site options for renovations.
Now, Peoria City manager Patrick says they are getting direction from the federal level to look at dispersing the over 400 families that live there.
"I think what they don't want to see is a concentration of poverty in one area and I think that having a high concentration of very low income people is something they would like to see the communities address and look at how they can disperse that throughout the community," said Urich.
The study will likely be completed by the end of the year, with any real action quite a way down the road.
