Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll announced Monday she has decided to enter the Senate race.
Ingersoll believes the transition from county to state government would be a challenge she would like to take on and feels her experience in county government would help.
"I believe that the constituents of the 37th Senate District, that includes Peoria county, could benefit by having someone who currently works in county government, in addition to serving at the Senate level," said Peoria County Coroner, Johnna Ingersoll.
If Ingersoll is appointed as Risinger's replacement, she intends to continue her duties as Peoria County Coroner along with acting as 37th District Senator.
