PEORIA, Ill. -- A crash outside Proctor hospital on Friday had some wondering why the injured were not treated at that hospital but instead transported to OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

According to the OSF Manager of Trauma Services it is because St. Francis was able to provide 'better' care for the situation.

Proctor Hospital officials said the hospital does not offer the same services OSF does.

OSF has a level one trauma center, meaning all crucial services are offered 24 hours a day.

"We have neuro, we have trauma surgeons, we have orthopedics, plastics. Any of the specialty surgeries that are out there, we have here," said Stefanie Carter, Manager of Trauma Services. "So we can provide that quick assessment and care for our patients as soon as they get here."

Of the 26 hospitals within our region, OSF St. Francis is the only level one trauma center.
