PEKIN, Ill. -- A Creve Coeur police officer faces charges of Aggravated Battery after an altercation with two Pekin High School students.
Pekin Police Department Spokesman Don Jolly says Officer Chad Hjortshoj allegedly approached two students as they were sitting in a vehicle outside the school Monday afternoon.
He says the officer made threatening remarks to the men, who had allegedly been bullying the son of Hjortshoj's girlfriend.
The altercation then became physical when the 295-pound officer allegedly kicked the student and threw the other student to the ground, kneeling on his chest and choking him.
Officer Hjortshoj was arrested and released with an order to appear in court on January 8.
According to Creve Coeur Sergeant Joe Walter, Hjortshoj is on paid administrative leave.
