PEORIA, Ill -- One local children's organization celebrated Thanksgiving a bit early this year.
Tuesday, Crittenton Centers hosted its annual Thanksgiving meal.
Over 100 kids, their parents, and community sponsors got a chance to sit down together and enjoy a meal of turkey and all the fixins.
Event organizers says this meal is a chance for some children to experience the traditional thanksgiving they might not get at home.
"It's an opportunity to be a family and to sit together with other children that are in their classes and caring adults. And I think just again, it's a celebration," said Cynthia Fischer, executive director at Crittenton Centers.
The event is also a kick-off for Crittenton Center's holiday fundraisers.
Next weekend, November 30 through December 2, is the 4th annual Festival of Trees at the Expo Gardens.
Crittenton's Stocking Stuffer Stores open at the Shoppes of Grand Prairie and the Northwoods Mall, starting December 1.
