If you suspect that a child is being abused or neglected call the state child abuse hotline at 1-800 2-5-ABUSE.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- In response to increased reports of child abuse and neglect, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is launching a new hotline system.
Last year, DCFS received more than 250,000 calls to its Child Abuse Hotline.
The 30-year-old system was unable to handle the large volumes, leaving more than 60 percent calls to be returned at a later time.
The new hi-tech system enters call into a queue system that monitors the wait time, records all conversations, and features various greetings to assist callers in their reportings.
