PONITAC, Ill. -- Damage to the Vermilion River Bridge on Interstate 55 could take up to a month to repair.

On Sunday evening, a semi traveling on northbound I-55 near Pontiac crashed into the bridge causing structural damage.

Illinois Department of Transportation officials say the passing lane on the bridge will remain closed to northbound traffic until temporary repairs are complete. That is expected to take 2 to 3 weeks.

At this time there is no word on when a permanent repair will be made.
