PEORIA, Ill. -- It's a dance party that is sweeping the nation.
Friday, the Center for Prevention of Abuse joined the "one billion rising" organization in dancing against violence.
Research shows 1 in 3 women are abused in their lifetime, that adds up to 1 billion.
The worldwide day of dance is a chance for people to stand up against the violence.
"We distributed valentines to about 2,000 people and organizations in the community. So we got school groups dancing today, we've got folks at the court house, staff in the hospitals, our sister agencies, social services agencies, so a lot of folks are also shaking it wherever they are today," said Martha Herm, Exec. Director, Center for Prevention of Abuse.
You can still show off your dance moves and be counted by registering online at onebillionrising.org.
