Death under investigation in Mapleton

MAPLETON, Ill -- Police are investigating a suspicious death in Mapleton that occurred Sunday evening.

James Cohee, 68, of 10232 W. Lake Camelot Drive was pronounced dead at approximately 10:42 p.m. after being found deceased in his bed with a gunshot wound to the head.

A neighbor called police at around 5:51 p.m. Neighbors say they had not seen Cohee in some time and his wife was out of town.

An autopsy conducted Monday, confirms that Cohee died of a gunshout wound to the head. Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says that the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Captain Dave Briggs says the Peoria County Sheriff's office is asking for your help in locating Cohee's missing truck.

"We're actively looking for a blue 2011 Chevy Silverado, license plate 1032800B (as in) boy," said Captain Briggs. "It's kind of important we locate this truck. If anybody sees that, they should notify the Sheriff's office right away."

James Cohee was a retired Illini Bluffs High School teacher. His neighbors say he was a good hunter and builder, and was well-liked by the community.
