UPDATE 2/18/2013: No suspects are in custody, but at a news conference Monday, police chief Steve Settingsgaard said authorities are making progress, thanks to credible leads.

The chief said police have recovered the victim's vehicle, which was found parked at a Robinson Park at the time of the incident.

"It's odd that the victim's car would go from the house to, I don't know what that is a quarter of a mile maybe down Mossville, and be parked in a parking lot with no reasonable explanation as to how it got there or why, and there are a couple of possibilities that we are considering," Settingsgaard said.

Police said neighbors should not be panicked, but remain cautious for anything suspicious.

A family member we spoke with Monday said Denise Leuthold will be remembered for her kind and loving spirit and for always putting her husband and three children first.

A visitation was held for Denise Leuthold Monday, February 18 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.

PEORIA, Ill. (from February 15) -- Peoria police are trying to determine who shot 39-year-old Denise Leuthold during a burglary in her parent's home.

Authorities did not say much about the investigation Friday, but were back at the home on Mossville Road that morning.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said Leuthold died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Authorities said a family member called police just after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon to report a possible break-in.

We have confirmed that Leuthold and her husband were missionaries and attended LaMarsh Baptist Church in Mapleton. Our calls to the church were not returned.

Peoria police are still trying to piece together details surrounding the fatal shooting. At this time there are no suspects in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 673-9000.
