Detours in place due to large water main break

February 10, 2014 Updated Feb 10, 2014 at 5:32 PM CDT

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Illinois Department of Transportation has set up a detour for southbound IL 29 traffic, due to a water main break on IL 29 (Jefferson Street) at the intersection of Abington Street in Peoria.

Southbound IL 29 traffic heading toward Peoria from the north will be detoured to the McClugage Bridge (US 150) and then to IL 116 in East Peoria.

From there, IL 29 truck traffic should continue to proceed south. All other IL 29 traffic may use the Murray Baker Bridge (I-74) to get back to Peoria.

The detour route will take effect Monday evening.

Illinois American Water crews will be working to repair the pavement at the location of the water main break. The repair work is expected to take at least one week to complete, possibly longer.

Please slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.
