GALESBURG, Ill -- Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza and City Council are working with a Quad Cities developer on a project that would bring a proposed grocer, retail center and hotel.

The project has received zoning approval, and the developer has until April 15 to file a proposed layout.

Mayor Garza said the developer has not yet taken control of the entire 28-acre site and is now asking to do the project in two phases, the second of which is to be completed in 2015.

"There isn't anything we're adding to this, we're just actually facilitating the process to enable this developer to realize the initial proposed development with the opportunity to move forward and complete the rest of it within a three-year time frame," said Mayor Garza.

He believes the council will support the measure Monday night due to the potential job growth the development would bring to the area.

The second phase of the project has yet to be determined but could include 10 acres of senior living condos.
