PEORIA, Ill. -- As the wheels on the bus go round and round, so does the hiring cycle at Peoria Public Schools.

District 150 is looking to hire at least 40 new school bus drivers for the upcoming school year.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license for the past three years.

Pay starts at $13.48 an hour, with higher rates for those with previous experience.

James Barrett, the Assistant. Transportation Director, says the district wants to train as many new drivers as possible, before its contract with First Student, Inc" ends in December.

"This job is rewarding because you're working with children," said Barrett, "and you're providing safe transportation to and from school for them. That's very important. That's why we're here."

There will be a school bus driver job fair Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 8:00 am until noon at District 150's transportation department, located at 1525 Northmoor Road, next to Peoria Expo Gardens.
