BLOOMINGTON, Ill -- The District 87 School Board met tonight to announce their finalized deficit reductions.

Last month, the school board approved a proposed deficit reduction plan aimed at cutting 3 million dollars over the next two years.

Now, the board is putting those cuts into action.

Officials say they will lay off approximately twenty teachers by the end of the school year.

"It definitely has an impact on morale," said Superintendent Barry Reilly. "Now the good news is that these people are very professional. What you will find is after we get past the initial hurt, they are all about kids and here for the kids. That is what their passion is. As I said, they are good quality people, so they'll do a great job finishing out the year."

Superintendent Reilly says that the district may be able to bring back some of the staff due to retirement or attrition.
