PEORIA, Ill. -- Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in men and women.

One central Illinois couple is taking a look at their past. Even though they have kicked the habit, Ernest and Patricia Cox wonder what their lungs look like now after nearly 30 years of smoking.

They said growing up they did not realize the consequences of smoking. Patricia heard about OSF St. Francis Medical Center offering free CT screenings and she knew they should do the test.

"Any time you have a test like this done, you're going be worried about it,” said Ernest Cox. “I wouldn't have done it on my own, but she made me realize I should do it."

Ernest got his results back on Sunday and there is a small spot on his lung. He has been referred to a pulmonary specialist.

Lung cancer is the topic of tonight's Doc's on Call with physicians from OSF St. Francis.

The show starts at 6:30 p.m. You can call 698-3742 to ask your question.
