PESOTUM, Ill. -- About 70 people, many of them teenagers, were accidentally sprayed with fungicide from a crop-dusting plane on Thursday.
The workers were detasseling corn in a field in Pesotum, 15 miles south of Champaign, when they were sprayed by a crop duster putting chemicals on a nearby field.
A decontamination vehicle and area fire departments assisted with showers to clean off the pesticides. The workers were then transported to Carle Hospital for further treatment, and were then released to their parents.
State environmental officials are investigating.
