Driver arrested for DUI following fatal car vs. motorcycle crash

PEORIA, Ill. – A 39-year-old man faces charges of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence following a fatal crash this weekend.

Police say Marlon Coleman was the driver of a car that hit a motorcycle early Sunday morning killing the driver and injuring the passenger.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. in the 1800 block of N. Knoxville Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene they found Daniel Cantrall, 58, and Jennifer Schmitt, 56, in the roadway. Cantrall was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schmitt was taken to the hospital. As of early Monday morning, she was listed in fair condition.

Police said Cantrall and Schmitt were traveling on N. Knoxville Avenue when Coleman crossed the center lane and hit him head on.

Coleman fled the scene but was followed by a witness who called police. He was arrested a short time later.

In addition to Aggravated DUI, Coleman was also arrested on charges of improper lane usage, being an unlicensed driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to report an accident and failure to reduce speed.
