PEORIA, Ill. -- A traffic accident in Peoria leaves one person hospitalized and another facing charges of driving under the influence.

Peoria Police say 36-year-old Eric Polston, the driver of a full size pick up truck, was traveling north on Knoxville at War Memorial when he ran a red light and struck a Saturn sedan around 11:15 Friday night.

Authorities say the impact crushed the driver's side of the Saturn.

The driver of the sedan, a 26-year-old male, had to be extricated and transported to the hospital with serious injuries, including a broken back and internal bleeding.

Police say the pickup truck also struck a mini-van, causing all four of its occupants, two adults and two children, to sustain minor injuries.

Polston was not injured and was arrested for DUI. His court date is set for April 12th at 1:30 p.m.
