PEORIA, Ill -- High school students in Peoria Park District's ELITE Youth Outreach Program exhibited some recently learned skills at a job fair this morning.
More than 130 students from six area schools made the rounds with employers from local businesses.
The ELITE students participated in a weekly one hour class where they learned resume writing and communication skills.
One ELITE graduate who is now a manager at Chipotle says it's great to go from being in the program to hiring people at the job fair.
"It's huge, huge for them and huge for the community,” says Brandon Ivy who graduated from ELITE in 2009. “We've got people out there who's not following laws or whatever, but you've got these great kids here that are willing to do what they're told and get the job done, and that's what our community needs."
The students say ELITE has prepared them to confidently approach business leaders for employment.
The park district will hold a graduation ceremony for ELITE members on the 16th.
