PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria County Emergency Management Agency is making the community more aware of water safety.

The Underwater Rescue Team was in Peoria Sunday afternoon for K-Mart's Annual Safety Weekend. The yearly event incorporates different agencies in the area emphasizing the importance of safety regulations.

A trailer was parked outdoors inviting shoppers to see some of the newer equipment used in underwater rescue.

"We have medical gear in case we have problems, so we can take care of ourselves," says Ed Feldshau with the EMA "Right now, we're also working on a first responder level so we can respond to disasters and help out more at boating accidents."

EMA representatives remind duck hunters and fishermen to be especially safe this time of year.

Other agencies involved are the Peoria Fire Department and the American Red Cross.
