PEORIA, Ill. -- Three people are in the hospital following a shooting that happened early this morning.
Police say it happened on the 2500 of West Krause Avenue around 3 a.m.
Many south side residents are still frightened after they witnessed this shooting that left several people injured.
But thanks to one resident's bed, no one was killed.
Police responded to multiple shots fired outside the Harrison Homes in Peoria.
Three people were shot and taken to the hospital.
One person was hit in the chest, and the other two in the leg and foot.
Police say the injuries don't appear to be life threatening.
Meanwhile, residents living inside Harrison Homes had a scare of their own.
Stray bullets went through windows of two apartment buildings.
One resident says her 10-year-old grandson was within inches of being shot in the head.
She credits his headboard for saving his life.
"I'm glad that the headboard was in the back of the window because if it wasn't, my grandson would have been shot. It scared me. It scared me and my grandson. Put these guns down," said Harrison Homes resident, Sherry Renfro. "There are kids out here. There are kids."
The suspects fled the scene by car before police arrived.
They are continuing to investigate.
We'll have more information as it becomes available.
