EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The East Peoria Fire Department announced Thursday that they are participating in the Illinois Yellow Dot Program sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Participants fill out their medical information on a yellow card and place it in their vehicle’s glove box. Then, they place a yellow dot sticker in the lower driver’s side rear window.

The dot tells all first responders that the driver is a program participant and that the driver has could have special medical issues.

Drivers can record information such as blood type, medications and emergency contact information. They can also say if they have a pacemaker, are diabetic, or have some other condition.

Multiple cards can be filled out for others who are frequent passengers in the vehicle.

Yellow Dot Program materials are available at the East Peoria Central Fire Station, 201 W. Washington St.
