EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The East Peoria city council also approved hiring two police officers Tuesday Night.
Officials say as development continues for the downtown project, more patrolmen will be need to respond service calls and crime. Leaders say they will re-evaluate the city's budget to pay for the positions.
They expect this is the first of several additions to the force. The firefighter's union, local 1498 and the city of East Peoria agreed to a new contract as well.
The 3-year deal provides a 2.9 wage percent increase for 2012 and 2013. The two parties will come back to the table in 2014 for a wage re-opener.
