PEKIN, Ill. – An East Peoria man has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for stealing more than $1 million in Caterpillar property.

John R. Peters, 50, was scheduled for trial in June but plead guilty on Wednesday to one count of theft of more than $100,000.

He will receive credit for the 243 days he has spent in jail since his arrest.

Peters was arrested in September after East Peoria Police executed a search warrant at 352 Cole Street and recovered approximately $300,000 worth of Caterpillar property.

A second man, Eliot J. Wells, 35, of Peoria was also arrested.

In March, Wells plead guilty to an amended charge of theft of less than $100,000 and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
