PEORIA, Ill. -- The River City is setting the stage for a nationwide Christmas musical tour.

More than 50 crew members have put in more than 3,500 man hours to build "Elf the Musical."

Crew and cast members are fine-tuning sets, costumes and rehearsals ahead of the national kick-off Tuesday night at the Peoria Civic Center.

They didn't have to look far for one of the show's props.

"All of the paper for snowflakes, they took our recycled paper and chopped it into itty, bitty, teenie, weenie pieces," said Jim Wetherington, Peoria Civic Center general manager. "So that's one of the unique things is all of the snow you see is actually our paper being recycled from the offices."

"Elf the Musical" shows Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Peoria Civic Center. Tickets are still available.
