The sun was shinning and the big shovels were digging on Eureka College Campus Friday.

The school held a ground breaking to kick off it's "Ivy Project: a Historic Campus Construction."

The Regan Drive Site will be home to the college's new residence hall. This project is first addition to the campus since the 1990s.

The Eureka College President J. David Arnold says the project is necessary to keep up with the growing student population.

"Since 2003, the Eureka College Student Population has grown by 63%. So, we have outgrown our current residence halls. It is also time for us to update, as we are installing new sprinkler systems in terms of fire protection," Arnold.

The Eureka College 11 million dollar residence halls project is scheduled to be completed in January 2012.
