EUREKA, Ill. -- Students at Eureka College had the day off from classes but many of them spent it working.

As part of the national day of service, students spent their day cleaning, organizing and helping out in their community.

Peoria's Family House was one of four places students volunteered. It relies on volunteers to keep the place running.

“We run 24 hours a day. So while some people may have the day off, we're still taking care of families,” said Administrator Keke Odom. “For the students to come over and help us with whatever we need, is just unbelievable and we appreciate it greatly.”

This is just one of many community service events Eureka students participate in every year.
