BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Federal Aviation Admission (FAA) cannounced Friday that they will close 149 federal contact towers, including Central Illinois Regional Airport's tower.
The tower closures are due to sequester cuts.
"We heard from communities across the country about the importance of their towers and these were very tough decisions," said Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
Airport officials say that they are looking into options to ensure that the tower will stay open.
The towers will begin closing on April 7. There is not an exact date as to when the Central Illinois Regional Airport tower is to close.
