PEORIA, Ill. -- The annual Peoria park district Christmas party included a huge surprise for one of the guests this morning.

Carl Cannon received the Directors Community Service leadership award from the FBI Friday.

Cannon was told he was going to hand out an award, but he was actually the recipient.

Cannon didn't even know he nominated for the award.

His family was there to watch him receive the honor.

"So when I saw these men coming up the center and then a parade coming behind them to include my family, yeah that's when I started to figure out that something was up," said Carl Cannon.

The Peoria Riverplex superintendent says this award gives Peoria the type of recognition that could help with future grants.

Cannon will be flown out to Washington D.C. For the official awards ceremony next year.
