CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- A new scam claiming to be the Better Business Bureau is making its rounds.
Wednesday, the BBB was alerted to the email scam as it had made its way to the inboxes of consumers and businesses across the United States and Canada, including the BBB itself.
The email uses correct grammar and follows a format often used by the Better Business Bureau, which can mislead consumers. (Please refer to photo above) However, the BBB says the message includes a hyperlink that if clicked will download a Trojan virus on the computer.
The BBB says it is working with a professional deactivation service to take down the websites that are spreading the malware. The FBI was also alerted to the incident.
Consumers are urged to delete suspicious emails and keep their anti-virus software up-to-date at all times.
