PEKIN, Ill. -- After record flooding last spring and deadly tornadoes this fall, we have all seen the raw power of mother nature but some of us may have not realized the destruction our record setting winter, and late arriving spring would cause.
Case and point, the tree that fell on a garage Wednesday in Pekin.
Police got the call around 4:30 p.m. Workers we spoke with said the tree was already in bad shape from the long winter and could not stand up to the wind gusts.
Neighbors said the tree has been there for as long as they can remember.
"Very, very old," said neighbor Christina Lenox. "It's been through a lot, especially with the wind and thunderstorms. That's probably what caused this to happen."
"The tree fell on it, the garage is going to have to be redone and it kind of smashed the car," said Charles Brashers, a property maintenance worker.
The cost to remove the fallen tree is about $1,000. That does not take into account the damage to the car and garage.
