Family of six left homeless after fire

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Red Cross is helping a family of six after fire heavily damaged their Peoria home on Sunday.

Fire officials said the blaze broke out at a home at 827 E. Virginia Avenue just after 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters said heavy smoke was coming from the back of the home when they arrived. Four children were home at the time of the fire. They all escaped before crews arrived.

No word on a cause at this point.

Damage is estimated to be $60,000.
